Today is my Plant-aversary! A year ago, my church began its 21 days of prayer and fasting, and I decided to take on the challenge of the Daniel Fast. For those who may not know, the Daniel Fast typically involves abstaining from meat and gluten products for a designated period. Initially, this process was challenging, but I understood it was the path I was meant to take. I got creative and sought support within my local community.

In January, there was a Vegan Food Festival in Orlando for the first time (look at God!). I gathered names of local establishments that could assist me on this journey. After completing the fast, I felt physically better and started transitioning to eating seafood. However, my body rejected eggs, which made me hesitant to try any other types of meat. Nevertheless, I persevered.

It was a real struggle for someone who had lived on hamburgers for the first ten years of her life! But I found more options and started to enjoy the process instead of dreading it.

Choosing to abstain from meat comes with its challenges. These challenges can range from ridicule and confusion to apprehension and avoidance, as many people may not understand or care to understand my choices. However, as we navigate our daily lives, we make decisions that may not always receive approval from others, and that’s okay. As long as it doesn’t do anything that violates the relationship with God or harms anyone, it’s… ALL GOOD…at least to me.

So here I am, enjoying this journey, embracing a plant-based lifestyle, and connecting with a wonderful community. If you are interested in learning more about transitioning, let me know, and I am happy to give you some tasty choices.

Other than that, happy anniversary to me!

  1. It’s been a year already?! This is a testament that time is going to pass regardless of what we do – it’s what we do with that time that can bear fruit. Congratulations and Happy Plant-aversary, my friend! So proud of you!
