Set Apart for His Glory

There’s a truth I’m learning to sit with, and it’s not always easy: I am called to be distinct. Separate. Set apart. In every season of my life. There’s a truth I’m learning to sit with, and it’s not always easy: I am called to be distinct. Separate. Set apart. In every season of my life.

Sometimes that means waiting on God’s promises, even when I don’t understand the delay. Sometimes it means walking in obedience even when it does not make sense to others. Still, God keeps reminding me, “I have something for you, but I need you to wait. I am doing something different inside of you.”

That is a hard thing to grasp. As human beings, we naturally long for what we want right now. But from the beginning, God’s way has always been about creating a people who are set apart to reflect His glory.

He started with Abraham. God told him to leave everything familiar so that He could create a new people through him:

“Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.”
Genesis 12:1 (NIV)

Then came the Israelites. Even when they lived in Egypt, they were distinct. When God sent plagues upon the Egyptians, the Israelites were spared:

“But on that day I will deal differently with the land of Goshen, where my people live; no swarms of flies will be there, so that you will know that I, the Lord, am in this land.”
Exodus 8:22 (NIV)

Now I am reading through Leviticus, and I see a repeated theme. God keeps calling His people to holiness.

“I am the Lord your God. Consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy.”
Leviticus 11:44 (NIV)

“I am the Lord, who has set you apart from the nations.”
Leviticus 20:26 (NIV)

This is not about being better than anyone else. It is about being different. Not blending in, but being visibly set apart so the world can see the hand of God. Jesus echoed this idea when He said:

“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:16 (NIV)

But this journey is not easy. Obedience requires trust. Waiting requires faith. And most of all, it requires surrender.

Sometimes I feel like the only one walking this road. But then I am reminded it is an honor to be set apart for God’s glory. It is an honor to be chosen, molded, and refined for His purpose.

It is like being an athlete or a student with a specific goal. If you want to succeed in your craft, you have to pull away from distractions. You train when others rest. You study when others play. Why? Because when the time comes, you will be ready to shine.

Spiritually, it is the same. We may not always see the finish line. But the Word promises:

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Galatians 6:9 (NIV)

So when I feel discouraged, frustrated, or tired of being different, I ask God to remind me:

You have set me apart for Your glory.
Help me keep going.
Not for me, but for You.
So that when the moment comes,
Your glory will shine through me.
And others will be drawn to You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
