Light Year Living: When the Promise Becomes Reality

It’s been a little while.

Life has been full, fast, and honestly, this “light year” season has been moving at a pace that has required me to be present more than expressive. But this morning, I sat with Joshua 5… and I knew this was something I had to share.

Because this wasn’t just a reading.
It was revelation.

In Joshua 5, we see a shift. Not just movement, but transition. God begins to put His people on display. The surrounding nations hear what He has done, and fear fills their hearts.

Because of Israel’s obedience, the enemy was already in fear.
They were not just moving forward physically, they were walking in truth. They were walking in covenant. And when we walk in covenant with God, nothing can stop what He has ordained.

Everything that tried to stop, delay, or oppose the promise is now forced to witness it come to pass.

Then in verse 9, God declares that He has removed the reproach of Egypt from them.

That statement is powerful.

This was not just physical. It was spiritual. God was removing the residue of their past and reestablishing His covenant with them. There was now evidence. A marker. A moment they could point to and say, “God has done this.”

Then something else happens.

They step into the Promised Land… and the manna stops.

Let that sit for a moment.

The very thing that sustained them in survival mode was no longer needed. God was signaling a shift. They were no longer surviving. They were now in a position to partake of the fruit of the land, a land they did not plant.

And this is where it connects back to what God had already spoken before they ever arrived.

In Deuteronomy, God told them that He would bring them into a land they did not labor for, where they would eat from vineyards they did not plant and live in houses they did not build (Deuteronomy 6:10–11).

God spoke it… and now we see it happening.

Then Joshua encounters the Commander of the Lord’s army. And in that moment, it becomes clear, God had already gone ahead of them. This is exactly what God had promised, that He would go before them (Deuteronomy 31:8).

Before the battle, before the strategy, before Jericho, God was already there.

Victory was not something they had to create. It was something they were walking into.

And as I sat with this, I couldn’t ignore what the Lord has been speaking to me this month through 1 Kings 8:24:

Not one word has failed of all that He promised… what He spoke, He has fulfilled with His hand.

That’s when it hit me.

This is another “God wink,” as my friend Shakira says.

The same God who fulfilled His promise to Israel is still fulfilling His promises now.

The shame is removed.
The enemy is already defeated.
And we are no longer in a place of survival… we are thriving in what God has prepared.

But here is the part we cannot skip.

Their obedience didn’t start in Joshua 5. It started in Joshua 4.

When they crossed the Jordan, they stepped into something that should have caused fear. They could have stayed where they were. They could have hesitated. But they didn’t.

They obeyed.

They moved forward when God said move, even before they fully understood what was ahead.

And that obedience carried into Joshua 5. They continued to follow God’s instructions, even when it was uncomfortable. They trusted Him in transition. They moved forward before they had full possession.

Their obedience positioned them for what God had already prepared.

And that is the reminder for me, and maybe for you too:

The promise is sure.
God will fulfill what He said.
But obedience is what aligns us to walk in it.

This is what I’m learning in this “light year” season.

Things are moving fast. God is building, establishing, and fulfilling. None of it is by accident. None of it is without intention.

He is doing exactly what He said He would do.

And we are not waiting on the promise…

We are walking in it.
