The Only One Worthy of My Trust

When trust is hard, remember this: God is not inconsistent. He is the only one whose character never changes and whose promises never fail. Learn why leaning into divine trust is the safest thing you can do.

This morning during my devotion, I stumbled upon a verse I hadn’t planned to read. I was studying John 14:2-3, but because The Message Bible groups passages together, I read verse 1 as well:

“Don’t get rattled. You trust God, don’t you? Trust me.” (John 14:1 MSG)

That line hit me hard: “Don’t get rattled… Trust me.”
I paused. I reflected. And then I asked myself honestly: Do I really trust God?

Trust Is About Consistency

We trust things that are consistent. We trust chairs because they hold us. We trust cars because they get us where we need to go. Over time, that consistency builds comfort. We don’t even think about it. We just sit, drive, move forward.

But when it comes to God, we hesitate. We apply human inconsistency to a perfect God. We assume He will disappoint like people do. But that is not who He is.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)
“God is not a man, that He should lie.” (Numbers 23:19)

We’ve grown used to chaos. At work, in relationships, in our thoughts. Sometimes chaos becomes our constant, and we start to trust the storm more than we trust the Savior.

But God is not the author of confusion.
He is the author of peace (1 Corinthians 14:33).
He is consistent. He is present. He is love.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” (James 1:17)

Trusting the Creator, Not the Creation

Sometimes we place more trust in systems, schedules, and people than we do in the One who created it all. But Scripture is clear. Our trust is not meant for manmade things.

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” (Psalm 20:7)
“Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses… but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or seek help from the Lord.” (Isaiah 31:1)

God never tells us to trust in ourselves. In fact, He constantly redirects our hearts away from self-reliance.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

When Jesus said, “Trust Me,” He was not making a casual suggestion. He was calling us into deep, relational confidence. He was reminding us of who He is. The same God who calmed the storm, who raised the dead, who never left.

Renewing My Mind Daily

This journey of trust requires a renewed mind.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2)

I have to remind myself daily.
Do not trust the noise.
Do not trust the fear.
Do not trust the creation.
Trust the Creator.

Because the truth is this.
Only God is truly trustworthy.
He is the source of all things, the giver of every gift, the One who holds the world and still holds me.
