In Deuteronomy 10, Moses reminded Israel of God’s covenant faithfulness. God rewrote the Ten Commandments on new tablets, told them to keep moving forward even after Aaron’s death, and then Moses broke out in praise. He declared that all God asks is for His people to obey His commands, not for His benefit, but for theirs.
The Message Bible puts it this way:
“When your ancestors entered Egypt, they numbered a mere seventy souls. And now look at you! You look more like the stars in the night sky in number. And your God did that.”
That phrase God did that is a testimony. It points back to Abraham, who believed God’s promise of descendants as numerous as the stars when he had no children. Abraham could not see what God saw, but he trusted the covenant. Generations later, Israel stood as the evidence of that promise fulfilled.
And the same God who multiplied Abraham’s descendants is the same God who fulfills His promises in our lives.
- Now look at you. God did that. He spoke over my life as a child that I would be an attorney. I could not see it, I even ran from it, but now I stand as one. God did that.
- Now look at you. God did that. After divorce, surgery, and weight gain, I heard His promise that He would restore my health. Today, I walk healthier and stronger. God did that.
- Now look at you. God did that. On May 13, 2023, He told me that He would take control. I see His hand in my house, my job, my wardrobe, my relationships, my friendships, my whole life. Not me, God did that.
Like Abraham, I cannot always see the fullness of what God has promised, but I can trust Him. My mind may not comprehend it, but my faith clings to it. And when I look back, I can always say with certainty: God did that.
